Alphabet Soup

Often the conditions that children are diagnosed with seem scary or confusing: ADD, ADHD, ASD… Despite these jumbled letters representing different problems, these diagnoses all have one thing in common and it’s not looking like spilled alphabet soup. What they have in common is the central nervous system (CNS). The central nervous system is made up of the brain and spinal cord. The spinal cord runs through a long tunnel in the spine, and has branches, much like a tree, that squeeze between each vertebra. These nerves control our arms, legs, and heart, but they have another important job, and that job is to send messages back to the brain. Messages like:

“Here is where we are standing.”
“Right now, we are sitting down.”
“Weeeeeeeeee are spinning!!!!”

and many more important messages. If the vertebra in the spine are misaligned, or out of their normal place, this can put pressure on the nerves which may stop the brain from communicating with the body as well and vice versa. Chiropractors call these misalignments “Subluxations”, and the chiropractor’s job is to realign the bones which removes this interference within the nervous system. What if those subluxations have been there since that really difficult birth? Hey, no one said it would be easy to go earth side! Subluxations, and other factors such as environmental toxins, and poor diet can prevent the nervous system from maturing at the rate it should or at all, which may lead to these alphabet soup type conditions.
